Well.... it's good, but not fantastic and clean, but not new. I don't visit this location very often, but I do make it a part of the "yearly tradition" to visit once a year, almost every year. This is a fantastic place to come during the winter months after strolling the city, or Temple Square. The place is located almost right next door to Temple Square and they're also conveniently located nearby the Trax station. The hot chocolate is great, but the coffee is a little weak. The salad bar is nothing to brag about, but it is a salad bar and is able to be added to almost any entree. The food isn't blah, but it isn't great either. It's decent for the price and pretty much expected for what you pay for. No... this place is not a fine dining establishment and you probably won't be treated like kings, but it is what you pay for.... so expect to get what you pay for. Other than that and as I've already indicated - I come back every year and will continue to come back every year so long as this place is open.

The chicken penne could not have been better. Plenty of sauce and the meal stayed warm throughout. Wife and I both ate for 20.00 so five stars it is. Also the fountain drinks were good.

We just stayed a week in the Plaza Hotel, so we ate here quite a bit. It is comparable to a Denny's, but I thought it was much better than the typical Denny's or Shoney's. They do breakfasts the best. The buffet is fine, but we ended up ordering off the menu more often. You get just as much food, and it sometimes works out to be cheaper than the buffet. The price of the breakfasts is quite reasonable (the omelets are about $2 cheaper than our local IHOP). Lunches were not bad. They have the typical assortment of burgers and other sandwiches with fries, etc. We had dinner here twice, and that is definitely the weakest link in the chain. The service was very slow and inattentive in the evenings (the staff at breakfasts were usually great). The dinner menu is rather blah, and the food was just okay. Overall, you get a pretty serviceable meal here. The breakfasts were quite good, and they are the reason I went up to four stars here.

I really don't like this place, it's next to hotel a I stay at frequently, the food portions are enormous and it is just too greasy!!

I have eaten there 3 out of 4 times... of coarse there is a story that goes with this. 3 meals were 3 out of 5 stars, but on the fourth time they were closed. They closed early without a days notice. I was staying at the hotel, called at 9:30 but said they were closed for carpet cleaning. My son a I had to find something in SLC open beyond 10pm for something beyond fast food. In SLC that is a above and beyond... very angry and disappointed. Not only that for 2 hours I had to listen to carpet cleaning machinery.

The breakfast buffet at JB's is one of my favorites. It's a great deal, they'll validate your parking, and ... I'm a buffet fan. I don't like to wait on food preparation sometimes. I've never been unhappy with anything I had at JB's, and I think I ate there 50 or 100 times.

Since we are staying at the Salt Plaza Hotel it makes sense to eat a meal or two at JB's Restaurant downstairs. I can say I am a fan, yes. I had a very yummy BLT and Zucchini Coins for lunch yesterday and came back later for an early dinner and had the salad bar. Nothing extravagant but clean and fresh. The food was very good and I'll be back. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a great sit down restaurant and good home style food. My husband had the spaghetti & meatballs and he really enjoyed it. We'll probably check out the breakfast buffet at least once this week.

We were in Salt Lake for a conference. JB's was certainly convenient. We had eaten at many JB's in the past and always thought they were great. That was our thought when we visited this JB's on a Saturday morning. I can tell you the weekend buffet breakfast does not compare to other JB's. The restaurant wasn't very busy so we were seated right away. We immediately ordered our drinks from the server and headed towards the buffet. In order to get a serving from several of the items in the salad line, you had to scrape the bottom of the pan. Some of the food was out and other hot food items were actually cold. By the time we had finished our meal we still had not received the drinks we had ordered. The server was terrible.

Wish I had an $8.99 Sunday Bruch Buffet which includes everything on the menu closer to home. The service here was great. The food tasty enough for the price. And again, kudos on the breakfast buffet.

On a recent Genealogy trip to SLC, we stayed at the PLAZA, and ate at JB's. The week of Aug 19-23, we found the staff very accommodating. One girl stood out, by the name of Juliette., (I hope I got that right)..She was sweet, caring, and just a real natural with people. The CLUB SANDWICH was the BEST!

We were looking for something different than the usual food offerings at home, something we wouldn't get there but also something inexpensive after having a great lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. One of the employees at a store at City Creek recommended this place so we drove over. Online the hours said they were open until 11pm but when we arrived the door said 10pm. Part of the lure was the soup, salad and fruit bar and while we arrived just over an hour before actual closing, the salad bar that we had come for was being taken down to "prepare for breakfast" which completely removed the option from all of us- especially the $10.99 shrimp and AYCE salad bar" on the menu. Instead we were left with the usual diner options and while they aren't high end expensive, there were few dinner choices under $10. I opted for the bacon wrapped pork. The bacon was undercooked, I got the zucchini rounds which were more breading than zucchini and the cheapest ranch dressing you could get- the flavor was below "meh". The veggies looked like they were boiled to death all day and I didn't even touch them except to push them away from the already soggy zucchini rounds. The pork itself was kindof pink inside but I know that this isn't an issue as much as internal temperature anymore so I ate some until I couldn't eat it anymore...not because I was full but disgusted. From beginning to end the entire meal was a big let down and why close your biggest signature seller a full hour before your actual restaurant opens? Go to Denny's and save yourself the hassle. Worst food we had our entire time in SLC.

There is a $5.99 breakfast buffet and a waitress who looks like she hadn't washed her hair in 5 days and talks too loud. That pretty much sums it up. Bonus Star- you get a pitcher of coffee for $1.79 and they sell bottles water here at the register. *This is connected to the Plaza Hotel and you can get a 1.5 hour validation in their lot when you eat here.

JB's serves diner food and is conveniently located right across from the convention center. If you're staying at the plaza hotel, it's connected to the hotel for easy access. My favorite meal here was the steak sandwich with mushrooms and grilled onions. It was perfectly cooked to order. Entrees come with your choice of two sides (vegetables, baked potato, mashed potatos, or fries) The pork chops are the best deal. A single chop dinner is $7.49, but you can add an additional chop for $1.99. That turns out to be a ton of food and was really satisfying when I was hungry. The service was excellent. When a server overheard us trying to figure out directions to a place, he ended up not only telling us the directions but also finding a map for us. Also, another waitress was very attentive to the details of our orders when we ended up heavily customizing our meals.

I will NEVER come back again. This is my second visit and got the same lame server. Could never get our server's attention to refill out drinks of the all you can eat shrimp that was ordered. The irritating thing was that we ordered an appetizer platter and it was missing one item. When i asked the waiter if he knew that he missed an item, very nonchalantly said , yea I knew. Really!!!!!!!!!!! So done with this -place. Didn't expect much and they lived up to lowered expectations.

As a visitor, and not interested in the sights typically seen in downtown SLC, it was great to find this place around the corner from Temple Square, which used to offer the double decker burger + fries + salad combination "styled" the same way as the one put together by the Bob's Big Boy chain in California. In fact, this used to be called JB's Big Boy, if I recall. I was hungry, and the meal platter sure hit the spot. Understand that it's coffee shop fare but, for that genre, it's good and the prices are right in the ball park. I don't remember the service. Thinking real, real hard, I think it was sort of routine, but they weren't rude or incompetent. The food came on time - and was nice and warm. I wish they would come back to a format that was more aligned with what was once a nationally recognized icon, the Big Boy, and could even be found in Michigan as Fritz's.

It really just acts as a diner for the Salt Lake Plaza hotel and the nearest "restaurant" to the Family History Library. Convenient? Yes. Low prices? Yup. You get what you pay for? Absolutely. If McDonalds counts as eating out, and a senior discount for 55+ excites you, great. Go for it. Me? Not so much. Service is hit or miss. Nothing looks fresh. The salad bar has basic selection of canned veggies and mayonnaise drenched pasta salads. The patty melt, my go-to in situations like this, was okay-ish. After all, I didn't get food poisoning...I suppose that should be enough of a reason to bump it up to two stars, but I just. can't. do. it. Instead, take TRAX a couple stops east for a lot of options, or walk a block to one of the hotels, Blue Lemon, or the Navoo cafe. Come on, you can use the exercise after the rolls of microfilm.

JB's has been likened to Denny's with a salad bar. Well, that's true, but in a good way. JB's, a franchise chain, is attached to the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel. This Hotel caters to people who are doing genealogy research at the LDS Family History Library which is just around the corner. If you listen to your fellow diners at adjacent tables this is what they are all talking about. I spent five days at the hotel (Not doing genealogy) and ate at JB's at least once every day. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They have a seniors menu (55 + ) and will do separate checks. Everything I ordered from the menu was prepared in a timely manner, was tasty and nicely presented. The salad bar is well-stocked with fresh lettuce, a variety of fresh vegetables, toppings and a choice of six dressings . There are two soup selections, fresh fruit, and several puddings. JB's has found it's niche in the restaurant business and what they do they do very well. I have never been to another JB's but this location gets five stars. If you're looking for fancier digs there is an Olive Garden and a Romano's Macaroni Grill within a couple of blocks. But it will cost you twice as much.

Go somewhere else, this place is awful. The waitress is absolutely horrendous. To ask someone "you at the end" for an order is unacceptable. None of our orders were correct, we did not have enough table wear settings and when asked for how many more we needed, she slammed them on the table and then cussed! This place is a poor excuse for a restaurant.

Located in the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, JB's is a testament to on-site hotel dining. This is like Utah's equivalent to Denny's, plus it's in a hotel so that just adds to the mystique and allure. The breakfast buffet is fine. Nothting special. Lots of the standard proteins and carbs and loads of the typical fats found in breakfast foods. French toast and pancakes available along with cottage cheese, fruits, cereals, etc. Nothing special. Regular menu is fine. On par with Denny's or Lyon's or whatever the city's comp is. The burger made me a bit ill and the fries were bland but crispy. *shrug* I can't fairly rate this restaurant since I've only been here once during a business trip but from what I experienced, the food is fair and tolerable for a quick bite. Prices are a bit high, especially considering it's a diner, but oh well. Not exactly affiliated with but only attached to the hotel so I'm not sure if I can use the "it's in a hotel lobby" handicap to JB's advantage. Regardless, it's good enough, but not worth frequent visits.

I've been staying at the plaza while in SLC for about 9 years now. As a very frequent business traveler, I find this little place incredibly refreshing. The food is comparable to a Denny's and if possible it's even more affordable. The idea of having a restaurant in the lobby of a hotel in the heart of downtown, where the average meal costs less than $15 is pretty incredible. It's certainly not fancy but I eat here at least once a day while I staying at the hotel.
